A Taste of My Monthly Morsels

Edamame Vegetable Salad 1I am excited to bring to you, my readers, a brand new series on my blog, called Monthly Morsels. This idea came to me as I was mentoring one of my nutrition interns, Charna Sheinfeld. Charna shared the following thought with me:

“I remember as a child hearing the expression “you are what you eat”, and thinking that if I eat a piece of chocolate cake, I would literally turn into one. Well, after a delicious bite of the fluffy pastry, I quickly learned that that may not be exactly be the case. But the phrase certainly bears a lot of truth. The nutritional content of what we put into our bodies will determine the makeup of our blood, cells, bones, hormones, and our other bodily components. This is why it is so important that we know and understand the nutritional content and composition of what we are eating.”

Yes, I thought. So many people can benefit from this information. It’s not just being told what to eat, but it’s understanding why that food will make you stronger and healthier. I believe that if you understand the why, it is much easier to make the necessary changes a part of your life.

And so, I present a new series of learning, cooking, and of course, eating. On the first Tuesday of every month, a specific nutritious food will be chosen as our focus. We will present the food, highlight all of its nutritional content, health benefits, and practical ways its consumption can affect your short and long term health. In addition, clear step by step recipes containing the food of the month will be provided. These recipes will be delicious, healthy, easy to follow, and will contain pictures to guide you.
