Hypertension is defined as high blood pressure. High-normal blood pressure increases the risk for heart attack, stroke and heart failure by 1.5-2.5 times, especially in people over age 65. Symptoms of hypertension include frequent headaches, impaired vision, shortness of breath, nose bleeds, chest pain, and dizziness. Nutrition intervention includes reduced sodium intake, weight loss, reduced caffeine and alcohol, and an increase in important nutrients such as calcium, magnesium and potassium.
