Celebrate with Me! It’s National Peanut Butter Lover’s Month

PB on CrackerYum, I love peanut butter!  Ask anyone in my family and they will tell you how much I love it.  I was so happy to find out that November is National Peanut Butter Lover’s Month.  I guess there are a lot of people who love the stuff, not just me!

Americans will celebrate this delicious food by eating more than 65 million pounds of peanut butter during the month of November. Southern Peanut Growers started the celebration on November 4, 1990, and over two decades later, it is still being celebrated.

Peanut butter is not only delicious but very nutritious.  You’ll find protein, fiber and healthy fats  in this delicious food which keeps you feeling fuller longer.  It also contains magnesium which helps build bones, potassium which is muscle-friendly and vitamin B6 which boosts your immune system.  Peanuts are also rich in niacin, folate, and vitamin E. In addition, peanut butter contains resveratrol, which is renowned for its anti-cancer properties.  Research shows that eating peanuts can decrease your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other health conditions.

Peanut butter is a food paste made predominantly from roasted peanuts. It is commonly perceived to only be a sandwich spread; however, you can do so much more with peanut butter. Try some of these suggestions:

  • Toast whole grain bread and spread peanut butter on the warm toast for a quick and delicious breakfast
  • Add sliced banana to your peanut butter sandwich
  • Add peanut butter to whole wheat noodles during cooking
  • Spread peanut butter on apple slices or down the middle of celery stalks
  • Add a tablespoon of peanut butter to your smoothie while blending
  •  Spread peanut butter on your morning waffles or pancakes

I could go on and on.  Now I want to hear from you.
