How To Lower Your Risk of Pancreatic Cancer

  1. Maintain a healthy weight. Your risk of pancreatic cancer increases when you are overweight. If you need to decrease your weight, slow and steady weight loss is the healthiest way to reach your goals. Aim for no more than a 1-2 pound weight loss per week.
  2. Exercise regularly. Consistent exercise of 30 minutes or more daily can help lower your risk of pancreatic cancer. Keep active by working out at the gym, taking your dog for a walk, or even riding your bicycle.
  3. Eat a healthy diet. A diet that is low in refined sugar and high in fruits and vegetables can reduce your risk of pancreatic cancer. Instead of drinking sugary soft drinks, try no-sugar added drinks or better yet, a tall glass of refreshing ice water. Eating a piece of fruit can help thwart off cravings for sugar filled items.
  4. If you smoke, quit! Carcinogens found in cigarettes can damage DNA that regulates cell growth and can increase your chances of developing cancer.
