Serena’s Success Story

Key to Success!

Eight weeks of success have flown by and here we are with our last success story of the summer!  Our final story comes from Serena*.  Serena has been a teacher for various grades 1-8 for forty years.  She is currently teaching second grade.

Like many of our other success stories, Serena had tried many diet plans, but she never felt that she was making changes in her life.  When she first met with Bonnie, she was surprised at how much she was encouraged to eat, and how good the food actually tasted.

Serena realized, “there was an overall change that needed to be made” and her mental turning point came when she realized she could do this.  Her whole life began to feel better and it was pleasing to her that it was happening through the changes that she was making.  There was also a physical turning point when she said to herself, “Look how much more you’re able to do!  That really made me feel good.”  Not having to limit her activity because of being tired was a wonderful thing.  She enjoys this new activity level in her life.  “I am not inhibited!  I try to do things, and I am likely to say ‘yes.’  This summer I even went kayaking for the first time!”

Serena’s friends and family are very happy for her as well.  Serena finds herself less afraid of social situations because there is less intimidation there.  She feels she has inspired those around her to think about making a change but she feels, “everybody has to make the changes at the right time for the right reason.”  She finds that she does not talk about what she is doing because her lifestyle has become just that, the way that she lives.  It is just her life, one day at a time.

Serena’s new goal is to step up and reinvigorate what she has already started out doing.  She states, “You tend to get complacent.  I want to step out of my complacency.  I want to try more exercises.  Having the word exercise come out of my mouth is a big thing!”  She would like everyone to know that anyone can do this.  There is no miracle involved; it is just a willingness to change.  Of her own change she says, “This helped me think about myself, and put myself as a priority in my life.  I am positive about the way I feel about myself and I am pleased with how I am changing my life.”

If you have been inspired by the summer success stories to make a change in your life, please let me know!
