5 Health Benefits of Hiking (and 7 Snack Ideas to Take Along)

This means there are plenty of trials to get out and take a hike on, which is why there is an entire day dedicated to hiking! Even though National Take a Hike Daywas yesterday, November 17th, it’s never too late to go out and celebrate.

Hiking is a fun way to get a great workout. It not only gives you the benefits of cardiovascular activity, which is great for your heart and lungs, but it gets you outside and connecting with nature, which is good for your mental health as well.
- Reduces stress levels and lowers blood pressure.Physical activity is a great way to help de-stress after a long day at work or at home. And, when you de-stress, it can help lower your blood pressure.
- Lowers cholesterol levels. Exercise has been shown to lower your LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, and raise your HDL, or “good cholesterol”, which will helps reduce your risk of heart disease.
- Maintains a healthy weight.Hiking is a great way to get your body moving, which can help you maintain a weight that is natural and healthy for you.
- Improves mood.When you exercise, your body releases a chemical called endorphins, which can make you feel happier.
- Strengthen bone density. Hiking is a form of weight-bearing exercises, which is helpful to maintain bone integrity and strength.
Along with benefits to your health, hiking can also provide you with an opportunity to spend time with loved ones while staying active.
7 Snack Ideas Perfect for A Hike
If you hike often or are thinking about starting, remember that hikes can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. When you’re out on the trail working your body, remember to drink plenty of water and bring snacks with you to fuel your exercise.
