5 Picnic Foods to Pack in Your Picnic Basket
Thinking about what to pack for your next picnic? You can keep in mind your favorite traditional foods, but don’t be afraid to put a twist on them!
- Finger sandwiches– make them on whole grain breads or consider vegetarian sandwiches (think eggplant or tofu). You can also stick with you chicken/egg/tuna salad – experiment with Greek yogurt instead of mayo!
- Wraps– YUM, who doesn’t love a wrap? Try making a middle Eastern style dish by adding hummus, greens and beans into your wrap – you won’t regret it
- Lemonade/ Iced Tea– it’s always fun to make your own lemonade or iced tea! Mix in some of your favorite fresh fruits to give it more flavor.
- Fruit Salad – don’t just stick to traditional fruits. This spring, add mango, pomegranate seeds, papaya and pineapple!
- Pasta Salad– For a high fiber twist, use whole grain pasta and an array of raw veggies like broccoli and cauliflower, and toss with your favorite salad dressing!
Don’t be afraid to get creative on your next picnic!
