Did you know that batology isn’t the study of bats? It’s the study of berries! Celebrate these pulpy and delicious fruits this July for National Berry Month.

 

It makes sense that July is home to this national holiday because it is the month when berries are at their peak. There are so many different berries to choose from and so many ways to enjoy them.

 

Not only are berries full of taste they have many health benefits as well. It is always great to eat something delicious and good for your health. Berries such as blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are all great foods to snack on by themselves, but it is also fun to add them to your favorite recipes.

Each kind of berry boasts its own amazing nutritional advantages for the body. It also helps that they are all so delicious in their own unique ways.

 

  • Benefits of Blueberries: Blueberries are a great source of Vitamin K, but they also are rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants can help lower your risk of heart disease.

 

  • Benefits of Raspberries: Raspberries are known to be packed with fiber. Fiber can lower your risk of heart disease, but it is also known to help with your gut health.

 

  • Benefits of Strawberries: Those juicy strawberries are packed with Vitamin C and are also a great source of fiber. Vitamin C can help boost your immunity.

There are so many ways you can enjoy berries, from snacking on them alone, to incorporating them into something tasty! Here are just a few of my favorite recipes:

 

  • Whip up a berry-filled smoothie: A great way to incorporate a lot of berries into your diet is to make a yummy smoothie! Add as many berries as you like with some ice and yogurt or milk of choice and you have a delicious summer drink packed with nutrients.

 

  • Bake a pie: A summer favorite that many people have at barbeques are pies or cobblers. There are so many to choose from! All can be topped with your favorite ice cream or whipped cream.

 

  • Fun with Fondue: Another fun way to eat strawberries is to dip them in chocolate. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white chocolate make for a pretty presentation and scrumptious taste.

 

  • A Berry Kabob: Another cute idea for a picnic are berry kabobs. A very colorful, yummy kabob with strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries! Such a fun and delicious snack.
