Celebrate National Food on a Stick Day! (Plus 3 Fun Recipes)

What’s delicious, convenient, and easy to eat-on-the go? If you guessed, kebabs, popsicles, or anything on a stick, you are right! This past Sunday, March 28th, marked the celebration of this diverse category of foods for National Something on a Stick Day!

Many cultures around the world utilize sticks or skewers to serve food because it’s simpler. From preparation to cleanup, utilizing a stick for food presentation makes things super easy. Putting food on a stick can help get all ages involved in meal preparation, a fun family cooking experience!

There are tons of ways to get creative with foods on a stick. You may be surprised by all the unique creations you can enjoy.

The Best Foods on a Stick

What is so great about foods on a stick is that the ideas are endless! Almost any holiday can include some sort of food that can be eaten on a stick. Listed below are some great ways to enjoy some fun finger foods:

  • Kebab: Creating the perfect kebab is not only easy, but it allows you to get very creative depending on your tastes! Try out vegetable skewers including onions, peppers, zucchini, or squash. Incorporate some lean proteins as well such as shrimp, salmon, or chicken, which are perfect for grilling. If using wooden skewers, be sure to pre-soak your skewers so they don’t burn on the grill.

  • Popsicles:The weather is heating up which means now is the perfect time to make your own popsicles! Store bought popsicles can be packed with added sugars. Making your own is a great way to ensure that the freshest ingredients are used. Look for popsicle trays online or use ice trays you have at home and fill with blended fruit or coconut water!

  • Marshmallows: For years, roasted marshmallows have been a campfire favorite. Try adding your own flavor twist to marshmallows such as rolling them in colored sprinkles or dipping into melted chocolate to coat!

  • Fruit pops: These can be as simple as putting a toothpick in your favorite fruits, which make the perfect treat when you’re having family or friends over, or just want a mess-free snack at home. Try freezing the fruit beforehand to make a perfect warm-weather treat and having a dip handy such as nut-butters or melted dark chocolate.
