Eating Healthy on Vacation
Are you going on vacation and worried about sticking to a healthy meal plan? There’s no need! There are plenty of ways for you to stay on track and enjoy your vacation. Most of these tips take only minutes, so it won’t add any time to your pre-vacation prep or your time in the sun!
– Supermarket Stop: If traveling by car, head to your supermarket and pick up some groceries to take with you. Whole wheat pita, flatbreads, yogurt and almond butter are great choices for between meal snacks. If traveling by plane, make a stop at a supermarket near your hotel and pick up some fresh fruit, baby carrots and yogurt. Don’t forget to request a refrigerator in your room.
– “Brown Bag It!”: Instead of buying greasy food from the beach shack, pack your own lunch! Just because you are on vacation doesn’t mean you have to do things any differently than you would going to the beach at home. If you asked for a “to go” bag from dinner the night before, you can now enjoy it for lunch the next day. Or make a turkey sandwich and bring it with you to the pool.
– Snack Time. Instead of buying chips, French fries, or snacking on ice cream treats, get yourself a small hand held cooler and fill it with fruits and vegetables. You can even pack little bags filled with assorted nuts and dried fruit.
– Make Healthy Choices. While out to dinner make smarter choices. Instead of going with the creamy Alfredo pasta, try the light pesto sauce over whole wheat penne.
– Balance. Vacation is not the time to stress. Getting that worry-free time will improve your overall health when you get back. As long as you’re balancing your food choices, you are sure to enjoy your vacation and come back as healthy as ever!
Everyone needs a little rest and relaxation, but that doesn’t mean you have to stray far from your healthy eating habits. Try to incorporate these tips into your next vacation and see if they work for you.
Your turn to take action: What will you do to maintain your healthy meal plan while on vacation?
