Get “Pumped” About Weight Training
Do you think that committing to weight training requires a lot of time? Think again! In just two to three 20 minute sessions of resistance training each week you’ll begin to see and feel serious improvements in your body. Not only does resistance training give you strength, but it also tones your muscles, improves your appearance, and can help your body fight age-related muscle loss.
Here are some ways to help you commit to weight training:
- Circle special events like weddings, vacations, parties (or any event for which you want to look toned and fabulous!) on your calendar. Then, each week leading up to the event, mark off two days you’ll add a 20 minute weight session into your workout.
- Set an alarm on your strength-training days as a friendly reminder to keep you on track!
- When you lift, wear shorts and a tank top. It may sound strange, but when you’re able to see the areas your workout is targeting, you’ll pay more attention to your form and be motivated to complete extra reps.
- Each time you hit the gym and strength-train, throw a dollar or some spare change into a jar. After a few months of regular workout sessions, you’ll be able to buy yourself a reward…smaller jeans, perhaps?
- Have a friend or family member take your picture every two weeks or so to record your progress. Seeing how far you’ve come and how fabulous you look will inspire you to stick with your routine.
