Is Coffee Good for You?
There has always been a lot of controversy around whether coffee is good or bad for your health, sometimes it can be hard to know what is true or not.
According to the Mayo Clinic, recent studies have found no connection between coffee and an increased risk for heart disease or cancer. The same studies actuallyfound a connection between coffee and a decreasedrisk for overall mortality. Other research has attributed coffee drinkers to being less likely to have type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease and dementia.
Along with reducing your risk of some disease, caffeine (which is in coffee) can boost your energy levels! It does this by blockingadenosine, a neurotransmitter in the brain, which is responsiblefor making you tired, thus leaving you with more energy. However, after the caffeine wearsoff, the adenosine that has been blocked by the caffeine comes back into action and can make your body feel more tired than before – thus the“caffeine crash”.
In large amounts, caffeine can worsen heart murmurs, hypertension, and arrhythmias. Coffee is also acidic, which can lead to worsening heartburn.
