It’s Your Time: Celebrate National Women’s Health Week
This week, May 13-19th, is National Women’s Health Week! For all you moms out there, Mother’s Day pampering isn’t over yet. This year’s theme is “It’s Your Time” and is directed at women who put their children, spouse, and others before themselves. This week is about making your health a priority. Women play many roles today. Remember, you will be better able to take care of everyone else if you’re taking care of yourself.
So, take the time to take care of yourself this week.
Use this checklist as a guide to take care of YOU this week:
- Get Physically Active: 30 minutes of physical activity per day can be split up into 15 minutes twice a day if that fits your schedule best.
- Eat Healthy: i.e. pay attention to the Nutrition Facts Panel, eat the recommended amount of fruits and veggies, switch to whole grains, drink water and choose lean meats.
- Pay Attention to Mental Health: i.e. get enough zzz’s, manage your stress, or try a yoga class this week.
- Visit a Health Care Professional: Are you up to date on your regular checkups and preventative screenings?
Here is a list of preventative screenings you should schedule. Be sure to discuss these with your doctor to see if these tests apply to you.
1. Diabetes screenings for ages 18 and up
2. Blood pressure test and cholesterol tests for ages 18 and up
3. Cervical cancer test (PAP test) for ages 19 and up
4. Mammogram for ages 40-49, discuss with your doctor or nurse. Starting at age 50, get screened every 2 years.
5. Bone mineral density screening (osteoporosis screening) for ages 50 and up
6. Colorectal cancer screening for ages 50 and up
