How Stress Affects Your Health
I think most of us can say that we feel stressed far more often than we would like to admit. Our day-to-day lives- from work, family life, etc.- are filled with stressors and can get a little bit chaotic. With all that stress surrounding us, it is important to take a step back every once in a while and relax.
The perfect opportunity to do so is approaching and most of us probably did not even know it. This April 16th is National Stress Awareness Day and April is actually Stress Awareness Month. So sit back, put your feet up, and give this article a read on how to help de-stress your lives.
How Stress Affects Your Health
Stress can impact almost every part of your body as well as your mood and behaviors. Stress can also cause headaches, stomach problems, and problems sleeping. All of these negative impacts and stressors can eventually cause problems with a bigger impact. Stress can contribute to high blood pressure, overeating/weight gain, and depression. These are just a few of the impacts; as you can see stress really can influence every area of your life.
Do More to De-Stress
Like many, you may just want to sit down with a tub of ice cream and chocolate when feeling overwhelmed, but there are many healthier ways to cope with stress!
- One of my favorite ways to deal with stress is to get moving. Running, kickboxing, or even going for a walk are all great ways to relieve stress. Exercise actually releases endorphins, which are hormones in your body that can improve your mood and make you feel great!
- Another wonderful way to relieve stress is to talk it out. Meet up for a cup of coffee or tea with a friend. Sometimes you just need to vent. Sharing your feelings or current situation with a friend can do wonders to relieve stress.
- One of the most important strategies to manage stress is to learn to accept what you can’t change. Take it from a control freak, it’s hard to let go but it can do wonders! Look on the bright side in every situation and realize you live in an imperfect world and that it’s okay.
- Finally, have some fun! Make sure you make time for the things you enjoy the most- family, friends, hobbies, etc.
This National Stress Awareness Day make time for you and let yourself de-stress!
