The TOP 5 Healthiest States in America

Most of us know that obesity; hypertension, diabetes and heart disease are major issues the American population is facing.  Yet, today I am going to talk about the positives that Americans can be proud of.  The United Health Foundation has just released their list of the healthiest states.   They also listed the unhealthiest states but as I said, today is all about positivity.

The awards for the TOP five healthiest states go to:

1: Vermont

2: Hawaii

3: New Hampshire

4: Massachusetts

5: Minnesota

Before you go running off and moving to one of these states, here are the reasons why they are considered the healthiest and tips you can use no matter where you live.

Vermont is deemed number one because most of its residents are physically and mentally fit.  They have the highest rate of high school graduation, a low incidence of infectious disease and a low rate of uninsured population.  Vermont also has a low prevalence of low birth weight babies, which has decreased 12 percent in the past year.  Lastly, it has one of the lowest rates of sedentary lifestyle in the U.S.

Hawaii is in second place because of its low prevalence of obesity and smoking and low rate of preventable hospitalizations.  In addition, Hawaiians are all smiles because their state is considered to be the happiest place in the US!  How can you be as happy as a Hawaiian?  Get an early start to your day, eat healthy and balance work and play.

New Hampshire is the third healthiest state because they have a low crime rate, low infant mortality rate, high rate of high school graduation and low percentage of children in poverty.  In addition, they have one of the lowest sedentary lifestyle rates.  Yes, New Hampshire has a great environment for exercise but every state has its beauty.  Hike, ski, go for a bike ride and enjoy what your state has to offer.

The fourth healthiest state is Massachusetts which has a low rate of uninsured population, low occupational fatalities rate, ready availability of primary care physicians and low prevalence of obesity.

Last but not least, Minnesota is the fifth healthiest state due to its low prevalence of diabetes and sedentary lifestyle, high rate of high school graduation and low rates of premature death and deaths from cardiovascular disease.
