5 Fun Facts for Frozen Yogurt Week

Happy Frozen Yogurt week! Frozen yogurt just happens to be one of my favorite warm weather snacks for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that it’s delicious. But besides that, frozen yogurt can contains some important nutrients like calcium, vitamin D and protein!

  1. Frozen yogurt is actually a fairly new food.Yogurt itself has been around for decades, but the actual frozen component of it did not come around until the 1970s in New England. I’m so glad it did!

 

  1. Frozen Yogurt was originally served like ice cream!When frozen yogurt came about in 1970, it was served in scoop format like ice cream until 1981 when it was first served as soft serve, changing the entire industry!

 

  1. Cow’s milk isn’t the only milk used to make frozen yogurt.Unlike ice cream, frozen yogurt can also be made with sheep and goat milk. In some other countries you might even find camel and yak milk frozen yogurt! Additionally, there are some frozen yogurts made from Greek yogurt and some that are dairy-free and even vegan! The possibilities are endless!

 

  1. You can make your own frozen yogurt.Even if you don’t happen to live by a frozen yogurt shop, don’t worry! You can make your own version super easily. Grab a blender or food processor, some frozen fruit, any yogurt of your choosing and honey and vanilla to taste. Blend it all together and serve immediately or grab a container and store it in the freezer until you are ready to eat. Or, simply buy your favorite yogurt from the store, place it in the freezer, and enjoy at any time you like!

 

  1. The topping possibilities are endless.Top your froyo with fruit, chocolate chips, candy, sprinkles, cereal or mochi to spice things up a bit. Don’t be afraid to try sometime new – you really can’t go wrong here!

 

Frozen yogurt is delicious, but it’s important to remember that not all frozen yogurt is created equal – some frozen yogurts may have a great deal of added sugar. So just like with any other food, it’s important to remember to enjoy this sweet treat in moderation!
