Did you know that men have a greater risk of developing certain diseases and cancers? However, men are also twice as likely to ignore annual prevention screenings with a doctor. Encourage the men in your life to make their health a priority this June for Men’s Health Month.

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Father’s Day on June 21st, than having the men in your life take care of their health all month long! Men’s Health Week is about encouraging the men in your life to make their health a priority and prevent the risk of chronic diseases. June is the month to schedule those appointments that men may have been putting off!

One way that men can focus on their health is by being mindful of what they put on their plate and into their bodies. June is usually the time when people head outside and light up the grills. There are many tasty dishes that can be made entirely on the grill, that will nourish you inside and out!

Men’s Health Tips:

There are certain lifestyle changes that men can make in their life to lower their risk of developing chronic diseases, and overall lead a healthy lifestyle. Here are some tips to help men make their health a priority:

  • Learn to Manage Stress: Men can be less open and talkative than women, especially about their emotions. Over time, stress can take a toll on your emotional and physical health. Notice early warning signs of stress, such as irritability, tension in your shoulders and neck, grinding your teeth or clenching your hands into fists, and find healthy ways to de-stress.

  • Think about safety: Whether they are mowing the lawn, chopping wood, or having a baseball catch, men need to wear a helmet. They also need to take care when lifting heavy objects, practice grill safety, or wear protective equipment when doing dangerous tasks.

  • Eat Healthy: Make sure the men in your life are eating a well-rounded diet with adequate amounts of vitamins and nutrients.

  • Get Screened Annually: Men are at a higher risk for certain types of cancer and diseases. Going to annual doctors’ appointments and getting screened is the key to prevention and risk reduction!

These are a few steps that the men in your life can start taking today! Overall these tips can

improve their vitality and help prevent health problems down the road. Of course, there are some things that can’t be changed, such as family history and age, but everyday choices can have a big impact on their current and future health.

Get Grilling:

One aspect of a healthy lifestyle is mindful eating. As the days get longer and hotter, dinner preparation usually moves outside and onto the grill. Here are a few recipes you can try this coming summer:

  • Surf & turf: Steak and seafood is always a good idea! Throw a steak on the grill and add some clams, shrimp, or seafood of your choice!

  • KA-BOBS: A classic favorite for a reason. Grill up some chicken with vegetables on a skewer; the flavors from the meat compliment the vegetables for a tasty and amazing dinner!

  • Wings: Have you ever tried buffalo or BBQ wings on the grill? If not, you need to! The flavor from the fire makes them taste even better!
