5 Tips to Bolster Your Health During Women’s Health Week

This week is Women’s Health Week! It serves as a reminder to make health and wellness a priority for all women.

As a woman, I get it. You’re always on the run and very often don’t take the time to care for yourself! Highlighting this week as Women’s Health Week will hopefully make you stop and think what you can do for yourself so you can feel and be your best.

For this week, I am encouraging you to make your health, both physical and mental, a priority. However, I know that this task is a lot easier said than done. That is why I created a list of 5 tips you can use to bolster your health.

1. Try a new movement class. After a long day at work, the thought of going to the gym for a 30 minute workout session on the elliptical probably sounds daunting. That is why I am encouraging you to go out and try a variety of different movement classes. Try something that you never have before, perhaps hot yoga or a mediation class in the park. You may find something you truly love doing!

I recently started a Step-it-Up class at my gym. It’s been years since I did step, and it’s a ton of fun. I feel great afterwards.

2. Go out with your friends. You are likely asking yourself how a night out with friends can help your health, but it may be just the thing you need to unwind. A great night out with friends can be a stress reliever. A night out can provide you the opportunity to laugh or even vent about some of the things that have been stressing you out lately.

My friends and I recently started a “birthday dinner night out” group. We go out for dinner together to celebrate each other’s birthdays. It’s really nice to go out with friends and enjoy good company.

3. Plan a relaxing night in. While sometimes you need a fun night out, other times you may need just the opposite. There is no greater feeling than putting on your comfiest set of pajamas and curling up with a nice book. If you have a family try to find a quiet space for at least an hour so you can have some quality time with yourself.

I have a favorite cozy blanket that I love. When I need some alone time, I wrap myself in my blanket and curl up in the corner of the couch. I either read a book, or just daydream.

4. Take yourself out on a date. It can be hard to relax at home especially if you’re surrounded by a long to-do list. That’s why you sometimes just need to take yourself out. You may feel a little weird at first but after a few minutes you will find enjoyment in being alone.

I enjoy going for a manicure or pedicure. Truth is, I don’t do this nearly enough, so this Women’s Health Week I am committed to taking myself out, whether it be to the local park or do the salon!

5. Cook your favorite dish. When you have a family, you probably cook foods that your family enjoys even though they may not be your favorite. Take the time this week to find a new recipe that you enjoy and cook that for the family.
