Get Moving!

Here are some ideas on how to get active during that time you used to devote to watching television. The benefits of a little exercise can go a long way, and with these tips you can start experiencing them.

  • Try to add some more steps into your routine. Walking is an easy way to put a little more activity into your daily routine. Get off the bus a stop or two early and walk home, or park your car farther away from the entrance. Aim to add about 15 minutes more of walking each day.
  • Make your chores more enjoyable. Crank up the music while doing your day to day house chores. You are likely to find it more enjoyable.
  • Take up a greener hobby. Start gardening, and grow some healthy foods while getting out in the fresh air! The activity of working with your hands can also help relieve stress.
  • Learn the art of “wipe on, wipe off”.  Try cleaning your car without the help of the carwash. Wash it on your own, or with your family, and you can save money, help the environment, and get some activity in. (Water fights are not out of the question.)
  • Go for a bike ride. Take the bike out of the garage and go for a ride with friends, family, or just your music player. Take in the scenery while developing muscle and getting some cardio into your day!
  • Try a sport.  There are so many fun games and sports to become a part of. It’s never too late to learn, and it’s a great way to meet new people, or have fun with people you already know. Organize a game of football in the park, take up yoga, start tennis lessons, etc. There are so many opportunities, and it’s great for your health!
