Celebrating National Herb Week

Curly parsleyThis week is National Herb Week!  We should take extra time this week to celebrate all the wonderful herbs that can be used to turn your meals into flavorful and delicious creations!

National Herb Week was created in 1991 by the International Herb Association, with the purpose of drawing special attention to herbs.

So what exactly is an herb? An herb is the green, leafy part of the plant that is used for many purposes.  Although they are not to be confused with vegetables!  Herbs are differentiated in that they are used in small amounts to create flavor (like spices) opposed to substance.

Want to celebrate National Herb Week?

This week, choose a new recipe that calls for an herb.  It can be one of your all-time favorites, or one you have never worked with in the kitchen.  When you are at the grocery store, take a minute to explore all the wonderful fresh herbs that are in the produce section.  Select the herb the recipe calls for and unleash some great new flavors that will make your taste buds pop!

If you already went food shopping this week, work with dry herbs you already have in your kitchen.

But wait, I have another idea in mind!

Why not celebrate the whole month?  Ironically, National Herb Week has started the same week as the Cut the Salt, Kick up the Taste Challenge that I am hosting!

To join the challenge, click HERE.

The Cut the Salt, Kick up the Taste Challenge gives you the opportunity to become familiar with the wide variety of herbs and spices Mother Nature has to offer.

Each day, you will receive an email with an herb or spice of the day, a description of its health benefits, and ways to use it in the kitchen.   In doing this, you will be consuming less salt, taking initiative in adding extra nutrients into your meals, and creating quick, easy, and healthy recipes you can share with friends and family.

This challenge is FREE to sign up and there are special gifts that are being given away?

So Join Today and celebrate National Herb Week with me all month long!
