Family Fit Lifestyle Month
Now is the time to get you and your family off the couch and start becoming more active because January is Family Fit Lifestyle Month!
Family Fit Lifestyle Month is an incentive designed to bring focus and encouragement to individuals and families to get fit together. The USDA, USAF (United States Air Force) and various foundations across the country participate in helping you and your family discover new ideas and ways to stay motivated, get fit and live a healthier lifestyle.
Though it does tend to be more difficult to stay motivated in the cold winter months, there are a still ways to stay on track with your fitness goals, not only for yourself but for your entire family. As parents and caregivers, you are the one who sets the good example for your children by providing healthy meals and encouraging daily activity.
Here are some tips and ideas on how to achieve a fit lifestyle for your family:
Set Goals: Working together to achieve fitness and health goals is easier to do than working alone. Why not use your family as that support system? For example, if you are a family of four, set the goal to each complete 2 ½ hours of activity for that week. At the end of the week, see how much each person completed and try and challenge yourself the following week to do more.
Keep the Fun in Fitness: For kids especially, if an activity is fun they will do it. Encourage your kids to go out and play in the snow, have a snowball fight, build an igloo or get the whole family to help shovel the driveway as an effective way to work those arms!
Stay In and Stay Fit: You don’t always have to go outside to get a good workout. Buy a fun workout video for your family to do together.
Encourage Free Play: Kids are active by nature and burn a lot of energy and calories just by playing with their friends outside. Allow them time to schedule playdates and run around in the backyard.
These are a few great tips to get your family started on establishing a more active and healthy lifestyle.
