Farmer’s Market Frenzy

Did you know that the first week in August is National Farmer’s Market Week? Farmer’s markets are not only a great way to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, but it is a way to support the local farms in your community. They also bring members of the community together for a way to get to know your neighbor!

Time tocelebrate this year’s Farmer’s Market Week by shopping at your local market!

5 Reasons to Shop at Your Farmer’s Markets

1. Fresh: Fruits and vegetables at the farmer’s market are typically picked right before being brought to the market, making them fresher than the grocery store.

2. Organic and Non-GMO: The farms that participate in the markets tend to use organic methods to grow their produce leading to fewer pesticides.

3. Affordable: Farmer’s Markets source locally and only what is in season, which makes the food more affordable and there is no long-distance shipping involved.

4. Variety: Smaller farms grow a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. Farmer’s markets offer things you don’t see every day in the aisle of the supermarket.

5. Better for the environment:Small farms conserve fossil fuels, produce less environmental waste, and skip the pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
