How to Stock Your Pantry During the Coronavirus Pandemic

During this time of uncertainty and panic, most people are wondering what they can do to prepare. One thing that many people are doing to prepare for weeks of self-isolation is stocking up on supplies at the grocery store. As you have probably seen on television or for yourself, the grocery stores are becoming more crowded and less stocked.

One of the most important things you can do for yourself at this time is remain calm.  To avoid staying out more than you need to, make a list of things you need to get before leaving the house. Try and stick to this list while shopping and only get what you need.

Tips for Stocking Your Pantry

There are a few things you should do to prepare before heading to the shops. Here are some tips for keeping a well-stocked pantry:

1. Clean out your pantry: Throw away any expired foods or create a donation box of canned goods your family will not eat. Assess how much space you will have to fill.

2. Organization is Key: Group together like items such as sauces, pastas, soups etc. This will make it easier to find items.

3. Take Inventory: Make a list of the items that you already have so you don’t overbuy or waste foods. Then make a list of all the items that you need.

4. Smart Storage: Use storing containers like Tupperware to lock in freshness with items that you will open and reclose numerous times, like flour. Label items with what they contain as well as expiration dates.
