I am Woman Hear Me Roar
Next week, May 11-17th is National Women’s Health Week.
Women’s Health Week was created by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The intended goal of Women’s Health Week is to empower women to own their health. I encourage you to take a step back and think about your current health status, both mental and physical. Next, think about all the ways you can improve your lifestyle and overall health. Areas of improvement can range from eating more healthfully, to visiting your doctor to receive regular checkups, to getting enough sleep and managing stress levels. This can be a touchy subject if there are a lot of areas that you feel need improvement. My advice is to work on these areas one at a time.
Create a health goal for one of the areas you feel you need improvement in.
On a regular basis, my clients tell me they would like to add exercise into their routine and eat more healthfully. The important thing is to make sure this goal is realistic. Now, create small steps to reach that goal.
This coming week, I encourage you to really make an effort to create lasting, realistic routines so you are as healthy as you can be mentally and physically throughout your lifetime. There is no quick fix to obtain overall health, which is why I encourage you to work slow and steady. When looking at women’s health, it seems almost apparent that nutrition plays a huge role. Incorporating healthy foods and meals into your daily life can substantially decrease the risks of many diseases.
If your health goals are nutrition related, there are so many ways to take small steps to improving how you eat and live to reach a desired goal. Start with planning ahead. Take time to think about simple snacks you can pack on the go to prevent snacking on “not so healthy” food choices. Plan what you will make for dinner over the week so you know exactly what you are shopping for when you are at the food store.
Steps toward your goal of overall health can be something simple like making sure you are drinking enough water each day, or making sure to pay extra attention to food labels. If you need help brainstorming healthy snack or recipe ideas, how to read food labels or are interested in nutrition education in general, please feel free to contact me and let me know what you are struggling with.
Each week, take more steps toward your overall goal. After a while, you will feel healthy, rejuvenated and empowered.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!
