Lose the Scale and Celebrate Healthy Weight Week the Right Way!

Today is the start of National Healthy Weight Week!

Celebrate National Healthy Weight Week by dropping the diet and picking up a few healthy habits instead! Healthy Weight Week is designed to change the conversation about health and weight. The purpose is to help people understand that health isn’t about the number on the scale! It is about how you feel both inside and out. This week encourages you to end your gruesome diet and begin living a healthy, sustainable lifestyle through proper nutrition, exercise and self-care.

Are Diets Bad for You?

YES!!!

All diets, especially fad diets, cause more harm in the long term than good in the short term. Restricting food groups and calories lead to unhealthy feelings towards eating and body image. Limiting your intake of food goes against your natural inner instincts to nourish your body. If you have been a yo-yo dieter, going on and off diets, you will have noticed that none of these diets have helped you long term.

By shifting your mindset to value health over pant size, you will be taking the first step to improving yourself and your life. Living diet-free and eating mindfully are the only ways to achieve long lasting health and happiness within your own body. When you are nourishing your body and no longer obsessing over food, you are free to live your life with an open mind. Remember to love your body for all it does for you and to treat it well in order to reach long term success.

What is a “Healthy” Weight?

“Healthy” weight is about achieving and maintaining your healthiest self without worrying about the number on the scale. You can do this by engaging in mindful eating, physical activity, stress management, adequate sleep and much more.

Change the Conversation About Weight:

During Healthy Weight Week I ask that you hide your scale and love yourself AND love your body. Change your thinking and focus on these goals:

  • Set realistic health goals for yourself.
  • Focus on positive lifestyle changes.
  • Appreciate yourself and what you are capable of.
  • Create positive relationships with family, friends, and food.
  • Change your negative beliefs into positive beliefs.
  • Savor the flavor of your foods.
  • Avoid dieting or obsessing over food, weight, or calories.
  • Eat when hungry, stop when full.
  • Move your body every day
  • Take time out for yourself and relax.

Spend this week learning how to read your body and determine what it needs. Make some great non-scale victories and the little things that make you feel great!
