Raise Your Glass to a Happy New Year and National Champagne Day!

What better way to ring in the new decade than to pop open a bottle of champagne? This bubbly drink is most often consumed by many on New Year’s Eve. Hence, December 31st has been declared National Champagne Day!

In 1662 English Scientist Christopher Merret conducted experiments with sugar that created a secondary fermentation that resulted in the carbonation or bubbles in champagne. Did you know champagne was named from the region of France it originates from?

More than a Resolution

While you’re sipping on champagne in celebration of new beginnings, take a moment to think of what changes you would like to make in the New Year. Many New Year’s resolutions are centered on weight loss and dieting. This year make self-care your resolution!

In this coming year, I encourage you to say no to dieting and yes to intuitive eating! Intuitive eating is a journey that will help you learn to trust your body again. Years of dieting can negatively impact your relationship with your body and food. This journey will not always be easy; however, it will be worth it.  The decision to start this journey doesn’t necessarily have to be a resolution, but a promise to yourself to respect your body, honor your hunger, and restore a healthy relationship with food in this New Year.

4 Tips to Be Mindful this New Year

Intuitive eating begins with breaking the diet cycle and trusting your body. As simple as it sounds, it can be difficult, especially if you’ve been dieting on and off for years. This New Year tune into your body’s needs with these 4 tips:

1. Pause while eating after every few bites to check in on your hunger level.

2. Meditate daily. Take a few moments every day to check in with your body.

3. Do the things you love. A few times each week do something just for yourself that makes you happy, whether that be a dance class or writing.

4. Tune out negative people. Surround yourself with positivity and limit your interactions with negative individuals.

Breaking habits can be hard so remember to celebrate the small victories you have on your journey. And yes, pop open the cork and celebrate with some champagne on National Champagne Day!
