Take a Hike!

HikingTomorrow is National Trails Day, a day created in 1992 by The American Hiking Society. The purpose of this day is for people to go out and explore the various trails in their state. There are hundreds of trails throughout the United States that don’t get the attention they deserve!

Hiking is a great way to get an effective workout done! Hiking provides a relaxing feel for the outdoors and gives one the ability to see all the beauty that nature has to offer. It’s so easy to get caught up in a day-to-day routine consisting of working and other responsibilities that don’t leave you much time to do something that you enjoy. This day serves as a reminder to take a break from your hectic schedule and go outside to find the nearest trail in your neighborhood and hike!

There are many benefits of hiking. Along with getting some much needed Vitamin D, the exercise will help reduce your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, and diabetes. Who would have thought that all these benefits come along with going for a hike and enjoying the beautiful outdoors!

Tips for a Successful Hike:

Stretch before you go. Trails can be filled with hills, mountains to climb, and things to jump over. It would be beneficial to stretch your arms and legs before heading out to relax and stretch out the muscles.

Bring a snack or two. Certain trails could take hours, so in order to keep the body energized, a snack is necessary. Snacks that are good for hiking include: trail mix (which can come in many different varieties), granola, roasted chickpeas, nuts, pumpkin seeds, and fruit. These provide high-energy and some protein for the day ahead to keep you moving.

Make sure to bring plenty of water. Hiking in the blazing sun can cause dehydration (which nobody wants to deal with!).

Make it a group activity! Everyone knows the famous saying, “the more the merrier”. So too with hiking! Make it a family day activity or go with a group of friends.

Dress Appropriately. When hiking, you are walking on rocky grounds that require sturdy hiking shoes. Make sure you have comfortable hiking shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. You also want to make sure you that your arms and legs are protected in case you get nicked by any thorns or branches.

Now it’s your turn! Get out there on National Trails Day and hike your heart out! Make sure to leave me a comment and tell me all about your hiking experience.

Enjoy!!!
